Community Air Grants Program

EXTENDED TO APRIL 19, 2018 - The Community Air Grants Program aims to provide support for community-based organizations to participate in the AB 617 process, and to build their own capacities to become active partners with government to identify, evaluate, and ultimately reduce air pollution and exposure to harmful emissions in their communities. The purpose of the Community Air Grants Program (Program) is to provide community-based organizations in California an additional opportunity to participate in the implementation of AB 617 and the means to acquire some logistical and technical assistance to support those participation efforts. The Program also aims to foster strong collaborative relationships between communities, air districts, CARB, and other stakeholders.

CAL FIRE Urban and Community Forestry Program

The CAL FIRE Urban & Community Forestry Program works to optimize the benefits of trees and related vegetation through multiple-objective projects as specified in the California Urban Forestry Act of 1978. These projects further the goals of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32), result in a net greenhouse gas (GHG) benefit, and provide environmental services and cost-effective solutions to the needs of urban communities and local agencies.

P3 Awards: A National Student Design Competition Focusing on People, Prosperity and the Planet

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of its "People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award Program" is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, design, and demonstrate solutions to real world challenges. The P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative technology-based projects that achieve the mutual goals of improved quality of life, economic prosperity, and protection of the planet; people, prosperity, and the planet.

Public Fleet Pilot Project

Administered by CSE for the California Air Resources Board, the Increased Incentives for Public Fleets in Disadvantaged Communities (Public Fleet Pilot Project) offers up to $15,000 in rebates for the purchase of new, eligible zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty vehicles. The Public Fleet Pilot Project replaces standard CVRP rebates with increased incentives for public agencies operating in California’s most vulnerable and pollution-burdened areas.

Groundwater Sustainability Plans and Projects

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has released the Final 2017 Proposal Solicitation Package (PSP) for Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) and Projects. DWR is administering the Sustainable Groundwater Planning Grant Program, using funds authorized by Proposition 1, to encourage sustainable management of groundwater resources that support Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

CalTrans Transportation Planning Grant Program

Senate Bill 1, The Road Repair & Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1) planning grant funds include: Transportation Planning Grants ($25 million annually) to encourage local and regional planning that further state goals, including, but not limited to, the goals and best practices cited in the regional transportation plan guidelines adopted by the California Transportation Commission. Adaptation Planning Grants ($20 million over three years) to local and regional agencies for climate change adaptation planning. It is envisioned that these planning grants will provide much needed funding to support regional sustainable communities strategies and ultimately achieve the State's greenhouse gas reductions targets of 40 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 2050, respectively. Transformative Climate Communities

The Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program is a California Climate Investment (CCI) program administered by the Strategic Growth Council, and implemented by the Department of Conservation and other partnering State agencies. Funds are available to support projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the development and implementation of neighborhood-level transformative climate community plans that include multiple, coordinated GHG emissions reduction projects that provide local economic, environmental, and health benefits to disadvantaged communities. Funding for the TCC Program is provided by Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF), an account established to receive Cap-and-Trade auction proceeds. (DUE 10-30-2018)

Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP)

The Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) was created by Senate Bill (SB)862 (Chapter 36, Statutes of 2014) and modified by Senate Bill 9 (Chapter 710, Statutes of 2015) to provide grants from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to fund transformative capital improvements that will modernize California’s intercity, commuter, and urban rail systems, and bus and ferry transit systems to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by reducing congestion and vehicle miles traveled throughout California.

Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program

Round 4 now open for Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program which provides grants and affordable housing loans for compact transit-oriented development and related infrastructure and programs that reduce greenhouse gas ("GHG") emissions. These projects increase the accessibility of housing, employment centers, and key destinations via low-carbon transportation options (walking, biking, transit) resulting in fewer vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and mode shift.
