Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants

The Distance Learning and Telemedicine program helps rural communities use the unique capabilities of telecommunications to connect to each other and to the world, overcoming the effects of remoteness and low population density. For example, this program can link teachers and medical service providers in one area to students and patients in another.

Who may apply?
For both programs, eligible applicants include most entities that provide education or health care through telecommunications, including:

Dairy Digester Research & Development Program (DDRDP)

The California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Dairy Digester Research and Development Program (DDRDP), https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/oefi/ddrdp/, awards competitive grants to California dairy operations and digester developers for the implementation of dairy digesters that result in long-term methane emission reductions on California dairies and minimize or mitigate adverse environmental impacts.

Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE)

Analogous to the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP)5, CORE provides a first-come, first-served voucher process for fleets ready to purchase cleaner off-road equipment to receive funding to offset the higher cost of such equipment. Pursuant to AB 134 and the FY 2017-18 Funding Plan, CORE is currently only applicable to freight equipment powered exclusively by zero-emission technology.

Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Combustion Freight and Marine Projects

The Volkswagen (VW) Mitigation Trust (also known as the Trust or Mitigation Trust) was established as part of a settlement with Volkswagen for their role in utilizing illegal defeat devices in certain 2.0 and 3.0 liter VW vehicles that resulted in excess emissions. The Trust will provide funding to mitigate these excess emissions through the replacement or repower of older, heavy-duty vehicles, engines and equipment with zero emission and other clean technologies.

CAL FIRE Forest Health Program

CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Program funds landscape-scale land management projects intended to restore and maintain healthy forests and conserve working forests. Projects funded under the Forest Health Program contribute to the goals of the Forest Carbon Plan, California’s Natural and Working Lands Implementation Plan, and California’s Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB32).

Healthy Stores Refrigeration Grant Program

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is pleased to announce a second competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process for the Healthy Stores Refrigeration Grant Program. Through this program, CDFA funds energy efficient refrigeration units in corner stores and small businesses in low-income or low-access areas throughout the state to stock California-grown fresh produce, nuts and minimally processed foods.

Western SARE Farmer/Rancher Research & Education Grant

The Administrative Council of the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program announces the Call for Proposals for Farmer/Rancher Research & Education Grants for 2020. With a Farmer/Rancher Research & Education Grant, a producer, working with a technical adviser, develops a proposal to conduct research and education (outreach) on a sustainable agriculture topic.

VW Mitigation Trust: Zero-Emission Transit, School, and Shuttle Bus

The VW Mitigation Trust has $130 million in funds to replace older, high-polluting transit, school, and shuttle buses with new battery-electric or fuel-cell buses. Replacing an older bus with a zero-emission bus eliminates particulate matter and other pollutants that impact children and residents riding the buses, as well as residents throughout California communities. During the project’s 10-year period, approximately 425 vehicles will be replaced with an incentive amount of up to $400,000 per vehicle.
