Specialty Crop Block Grant Program

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is now accepting proposals for the 2019 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP).

Each year, CDFA conducts a two-phase competitive solicitation process to award funds to projects that solely enhance the competitiveness of California specialty crops. Specialty crops include fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops (including floriculture). Review the 2019 Request for Concept Proposals for detailed application instructions.

Farm to School Grant Program

USDA will award up to $7.5 million in competitive grants to eligible entities through the Farm to School Grant Program in fiscal year (FY) 2019. Each grant helps implement Farm to School programs that increase access to local food in eligible schools, providing students with quality meals at a reasonable cost while also supporting local producers.

The Program includes three tracks—Implementation, Planning, and Training. These will support a variety of projects and implementation stages.

Each track provides funding for a specific range of activities:

Caltrans Sustainable Communities Grants

Caltrans is pleased to release the FY 2019-20 Grant Application Guides and call-for-applications for State and federal funding, as well as grant funding from Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair & Accountability Act of 2017.

The Sustainable Communities Grants will provide $29.5 million in funding to local and regional multimodal transportation and land use planning projects that further local Sustainable Communities Strategies, contribute to the State’s GHG reduction targets, and also assist in achieving the Caltrans Mission and Grant Program Overarching Objectives.

Community Solar Pilot Program

The Community Solar Pilot Program is a new program administered by the Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) to provide solar energy benefits to low-income households. With program oversight and direction provided by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), CSD will provide up to $5 million in funding for two or more community solar projects for the purposes of making the benefits of solar energy more available to eligible low-income households, lowering residents’ energy bills, and providing co-benefits to communities, including economic and workforce development.

Wetlands Restoration for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program

The Wetlands Restoration for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program (Program) restores wetland ecosystems to provide essential services to California's people, wildlife, and fish. Wetlands have high carbon sequestration rates that can sequester carbon for decades. There is tremendous opportunity to restore large areas of mountain meadow, coastal tidal, and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta wetlands that do not currently provide the full potential of carbon storage or other benefits due to historical land use.

California State Coastal Conservancy Climate Ready Grants

The California State Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready Program is soliciting proposals for projects that use nature-based solutions to adapt to impacts of climate change. These grants seek to encourage local governments and non-governmental organizations to take action to prepare for a changing climate by advancing planning and implementation of projects that lessen the impacts of climate change, especially within disadvantaged communities.

2018 Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program

The National Park Service (NPS) has announced that the application process has opened for the 2018 Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP). The ORLP is a nationally competitive grant program funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The ORLP offers nationally competitive grants specifically to help create and improve state and locally-owned park and other outdoor recreation areas in ways that will help the public to access or re-connect with the outdoors, particularly in city neighborhoods that lack parks and recreational opportunities.
