Local Coastal Program Grant

The Local Coastal Program Local Assistance Grant Program provides funds to support local governments in completing or updating Local Coastal Programs (LCP) consistent with the California Coastal Act, with special emphasis on planning for sea-level rise and climate change. The Coastal Commission has awarded five rounds of LCP Local Assistance grants, including 11 grants in Fiscal Year 2013/2014 for the first round of grant funding, 13 grants in Fiscal Year 2014/2015 for the second round of grant funding, 14 grants in Fiscal Year 2016/2017 for the third round of grant funding, and 7 grants in Fiscal Year 2017/2018 for the fourth round of grant funding. A fifth round of grants was awarded in Fiscal Year 2018/2019 to five local jurisdictions, with grant projects now kicking off. For a summary of the funded grant projects, see below.

Funding Entity: 

A total of up to $1,500,000 is available through Round 6 of this competitive grant program. There are no established minimum or maximum grant amounts. Based on prior grant experience, we expect the applications to range in amount from $50,000 to $300,000 and that the number and total dollar amount of the applications will exceed the available funds.
