Description

The U.S. Embassy invites interested organizations to submit applications for projects to provide comprehensive, focused, practical training to journalists and media professionals, through MediaCor, including the American Pavilion, at the State University of Moldova. Competitive proposals should lay out a clear vision for how the proposed program will coordinate across the many journalism and media professional training efforts already funded by donors and partner organizations and how they can be brought under one comprehensive umbrella to reduce duplication, and to provide more strategic, sustainable training. A third component will be to create and manage a database to ensure that the program and its partners have the most up-to-date contact information for all those who have participated in journalism and media training. This funding opportunity is authorized by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. Program Objectives: To strengthen the knowledge and professional skills of Moldovan journalists and media professionals. Major areas of focus include training to journalists and media professionals on the following areas: · Financial and banking reporting · Legal, constitutional, legislative, and judicial coverage · Corruption investigations · Media organizations’ Community involvement to inform and build consensus on local issues · Development of a culture of ethical, balanced, objective, fact-based reporting. Competitive proposals should include an element that manages and coordinates programs that involve travel by Moldovan journalists — both regionally and to the United States — to gain first-hand experience in news organizations. Another component of each proposal should be to bring U.S. speakers to Moldova to provide expertise to university programs for journalism students as well as journalism and media professionals. Proposals should identify the universities in Moldova with dedicated journalism, media, and communications programs and explain how they will work with those programs to ensure that these speakers are connected directly to university curricula. A final plus will be proposals that have outreach efforts to journalists in northern Moldova, notably Balti, as well as southern Moldova
