Incident Command System for Corrections: Preparing for and Responding to Emergencies
This program will be used to further advance, enhance, and expand NIC’s ICSC, emergency preparedness, and emergency response efforts for federal, state, county, local, and indigenous correctional agencies. ICSC addresses critical correctional issues related to incident command and emergency response and creates a pathway that ensures that a correctional agency is prepared to transition from an institutional emergency response to a multi-agency response as an incident moves beyond the secure perimeters of an institution. Through this cooperative agreement, NIC seeks to update, expand, and make more user-friendly its publications of “A Guide to Preparing for and Responding to Prison Emergencies” (https://s3.amazonaws.com/static.nicic.gov/Public/Emergencies-Guide-Pris…) and “A Guide to Preparing for and Responding to Jail Emergencies” (https://s3.amazonaws.com/static.nicic.gov/Public/Emergencies-Guide-Jail…) by condensing them into a single guide titled “A Guide to Preparing for and Responding to Emergencies in a Correctional Facility.” As part of this cooperative agreement, a virtual instructor-led training will also be created to teach the emergency preparedness guidelines and highlight the self-audit checklist contained in the new guide. The awardee will be expected to create a curriculum (consisting of a facilitator guide, student guide, presentation slides, etc.) and its coordinating training program. The details of these upgrades will be discussed by the subject matter expert roundtable that the awardee will also conduct as part of this cooperative agreement.
