Solicitation of Input from Stakeholders on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Innovations Varies

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Foreign Agricultural Service, Office of Global Programs, Food for Progress branch requests comments from the public to inform its future food security and agricultural sector development programming. This Request for Information (RFI) offers the opportunity for interested parties to share challenges and propose interventions which may potentially contribute to the expansion of global agricultural production and trade in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) committed to open and free enterprise while reducing their environmental impact. Responses should include as much detailed data, research, and suggestions as possible to facilitate and bring to scale transformative breakthroughs in climate-smart agriculture. This is not a notice of funding opportunity or a request for proposals. Respondents should submit their comments to PPDED@fas.usda.gov.

Rural Decentralized Water System Grant Program Varies

The DWS Grant Program has been established to help individuals with low to moderate incomes finance the costs of household water wells and individually owned decentralized wastewater systems that they own or will own. Grant funds must be used to establish and maintain a revolving fund to provide loans and sub-grants to eligible individuals for individually owned water well systems and/or individually owned wastewater systems. Individual households may use the loan and/or sub-grant funds to construct, refurbish, rehabilitate, or replace decentralized water systems up to the point of entry to a home. Point of entry for the well system is the junction where water enters into a home water delivery system after being pumped from a well. For septic systems, in lie of the point of entry, the point of exit is substituted. The point of exit is the junction where wastewater exits out of the home wastewater collection system into the septic tank and drain field. Grant funds may be used to pay administrative expenses associated with providing DWS loans and/or sub-grants.

Northern Sierra AQMD Carl Moyer Program No Due Date Given Varies

Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program provides incentive grants for cleaner-than-required engines, equipment and other sources of pollution providing early or extra emission reductions. Eligible projects include cleaner on-road, off-road and stationary agricultural pump engines. The program achieves near-term reductions in emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and reactive organic gas (ROG) which are necessary for California to meet its clean air commitments under the State Implementation Plan. NOx and ROG combine in the presence of sunlight to form ozone (smog), while PM, a component of diesel exhaust, has been identified as a toxic air contaminant by the Air Resources Board. Additional information can be found at the ARB website

Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Varies

The Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation (SALC) Program fights climate change by protecting our productive farmlands and encouraging compact transit-oriented communities.

The SALC Program utilizes Cap-and-Trade proceeds to protect agricultural lands on the outskirts of cities and near residential neighborhoods from development.  The SALC program simultaneously supports California’s food security and encourages infill development and low-carbon transportation to curb sprawl.  Urban sprawl not only increases greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, as people have to drive further to get where they need to go, but also encroaches on agricultural lands that both store carbon and sustain our economy.
