Community Air Protection funds allow for immediate actions to improve the air quality of the most impacted communities across the state, while the other aspects of AB 617 are developed and implemented. Partnering with communities is essential to the success of these incentives, and both the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and air districts are looking to local community members and groups to help identify funding priorities

A Green Business Program is a community building program. A Green Business recognition program is a positive bridge between government agencies and businesses. It can be a powerful incentive for businesses to take advantage of government assistance to conserve resources and save money. It also engages the public to patronize businesses that operate more sustainably. The Green Business Program can also help government agencies meet City/County sustainability goals through GHG reductions, resource conservation mandates. These goals might those mandated in a Climate Action Plan or outlined in solid waste diversion or water conservation targets. A Green Business Program can also improve environmental compliance by encouraging businesses to adopt numerous “beyond compliance” related to waste reduction, pollution prevention, and water conservation.

Corpsmembers aged 18 – 25 years old complete a year of paid service and receive on-the-job training while completing projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Energy Corps projects include energy efficiency audits and retrofits. Individuals can apply to participate in the Energy Corps and organizations can apply to provide projects for the Energy Corps.

Subject to the availability of funds, USDOL’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) intends to provide funding to the International Labor Organization (ILO). The objective of the sole source award is for the rights of freedom association and collective bargaining to be realized in law and in practice in Mexico. This will be achieved by the independent observation of workplace democratic processes and capacity building of workers/unions, employers and the government of Mexico leading to greater adherence to international labor standards. This is a Notice of Intent only. The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), intends to award a Cooperative Agreement to the Fair Food Standards Council (FFSC) for a technical assistance project to promote worker voice in international agricultural supply chains. The project will support an initial feasibility study and assessment of an expansion internationally of the Fair Food Program (FFP) model for promotion of worker voice and worker rights, including piloting the FFP model, which involves a worker-driven social responsibility approach, on farms outside of the United States. Program Overview: EDA has authority to provide grants to meet the full range of communities’ and regions’ economic development needs from planning and technical assistance to construction of infrastructure. These grants are made through a series of Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) that can be found on EDA’s website at https://www.eda.gov/funding/funding-opportunities and are designed to support the economic development activities most useful to a community based on its needs and circumstances. EDA funds community or regionally generated ideas and assists communities to advance to the next level of economic development. This NOFO, which supersedes the FY20 PWEAA NOFO, sets out EDA’s application submission and review procedures for two of EDA’s core economic development programs authorized under the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965, as amended (42 U.S.C. § 3121 et seq.) VALE improves airport air quality and provides air quality credits for future airport development. Created in 2004, VALE helps airport sponsors meet their state-related air quality responsibilities under the Clean Air Act. Through VALE, airport sponsors can use Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds and Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs) to finance low emission vehicles, refueling and recharging stations, gate electrification, and other airport air quality improvements.

As of September 2018, VALE grants have funded 105 projects at 51 airports. Details can be found in the project summary below. VALE grants are expected to reduce ozone emissions by 1,192 tons per year for the next 5 years. This is equivalent to removing 66,550 cars and trucks off the road each year.

On hot summer days, energy demand increases because thousands of customers are using their air conditioning units. PG&E may remotely activate SmartAC devices on those days in order to help maintain adequate power supplies and avoid power interruptions.

If you're a SmartRate™ participant, on SmartRate™ event days, your SmartAC™ device(s) are activated under the SmartRate™ program guidelines. SmartAC is free and automated. It can also help make event days more successful by helping to prevent power interruptions.

Event season: SmartAC™ events occur between May 1 and October 31.

Event length: SmartAC events Days can be as short as an hour or two and no more than six hours in a day.

Participants must have standard central air conditioners and/or heat pumps.

SmartAC technology and activation

SmartAC™ technology will be installed free of charge by a certified technician and maintained at no cost to the customer as long as you are a participant in the SmartAC program.

The SmartAC authorized contractor is Franklin Energy. A Franklin Energy technician may contact you:

• To get your permission to activate the SmartAC device
• To install the SmartAC device, which may involve replacement with updated technology
• To help solve a tech issue you may have contacted the program about
• To visit your home and carry out the free AC check-up
• To leave a Welcome Kit door-hanger with your AC checkup results and program details

SmartAC™ switch technology will be installed on or near the outside compressor component of participant's air conditioning (AC) unit. Participants must have standard central air conditioners and/or heat pumps.

PG&E may remotely activate SmartAC™ device(s) in anticipation of a state or local energy emergency to help maintain adequate power supplies and avoid widespread power interruptions.

During a SmartAC™ event (or SmartDay™ event for SmartRate™ participants), your device will be remotely activated and your air conditioner will run slightly less than it normally would.

Residential participants with SmartAC™ switch technology may experience no more than 50 percent reduction in the air conditioner's average run time.

During a SmartAC™ event, if your thermostat calls for the air conditioner to make cool air, your AC will ignore that signal for approximately 15 out of 30 minutes. At all other times, the AC will respond normally, and make cool air.

Opt out policy

With the exception of extreme energy emergencies, where rotating outages may occur, participants may call a SmartAC™ representative at 1-866-908-4916 and opt-out of an event for the day, without penalty. The AC will be returned to its previous operational setting.
