AmeriCorps grants are awarded to eligible organizations proposing to engage AmeriCorps members in evidence-based or evidence-informed interventions to strengthen communities. An AmeriCorps member is an individual who engages in community service through an approved national service position. Members may receive a living allowance and other benefits while serving. Upon successful completion of their service, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from the National Service Trust that members can use to pay for higher education expenses or apply to qualified student loans.

The blood brain barrier (BBB) is a target of both the HIV virus and substances of abuse. It is a site of entry for HIV infected monocytes and macrophages that can traverse the BBB either paracellularly or transcellularly. HIV viral proteins can also attack astrocytes and tight junctions of BBB directly and compromise its integrity, resulting in the crossing of the virus, as well as abused substances, into the brain. Meanwhile, many substances of abuse cause BBB dysfunction. Because BBB integrity regulates both substances and virus levels in the brain, it is critical to establish the mechanisms by which HIV infection, in combination with substances of abuse, affect BBB function and integrity and their consequences. The purpose of this initiative is to support innovative research that elucidates the roles of HIV and addictive substances in the pathology of BBB. This FOA encourages studies to expand the current understanding of the basic molecular mechanisms underlying virus mobilization across BBB, and pathology of BBB in HIV infection and substance use disorders (SUD). In addition, studies are encouraged to develop and test novel BBB models to assess the delivery of pharmacological and immunotherapies to treat HIV infection and SUD, and to suppress HIV replication in CNS.

oThe purpose of this concept is to invite R25 applications that disseminate analytical and computational methodologies and best practices through educational activities with hands-on research experience.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications for Biomarker Characterization Centers (BCCs), one of the three scientific units of the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN). The EDRN is a national infrastructure to discover, develop, and validate biomarkers and imaging methods for early cancer detection and risk assessment. BCCs will (1) discover, develop, characterize and test new biomarkers or refine existing biomarkers, (2) develop, refine and/or standardize biomarker assays, (3) provide resources and support for the validation of biomarkers developed by the EDRN, and (4) participate in collaborative projects with other laboratories and centers.The other two scientific units of the continuing EDRN program are the Clinical Validation Centers (CVCs), which will conduct clinical research on the validation of biomarkers and will serve as resource centers for the Network by participating in collaborative biomarker validation studies with EDRN BCCs; and the Data Management and Coordinating Center (DMCC), which will support statistical and computational analyses, informatics infrastructure, study design, coordination and management of EDRN-sponsored biomarker validation studies, and the coordination of Network-wide meetings and workshops.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) seeks applications for the Implementation Science Hub/Resource Center for the Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence initiative. This FOA runs in parallel with companion FOAs that seek applications for Research Centers of Excellence (RFA-HD-23-NNN) and an Innovation and Coordinating Hub/Resource Center (RFA-HD-23-NNN). It is expected that the Implementation Science Hub will serve as a resource to Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence, with a particular emphasis on assisting in implementing evidence-informed programs, practices and policies to improve maternal health outcomes. The Implementation Science Hub will help bridge the evidence-to-practice gap to support the development and implementation of strategies to inform integrated efforts involving policy and practice changes to improve pregnancy, perinatal, and postpartum care and advance maternal health and maternal health equity. Studies that promote equitable dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions among underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged.

The purpose of this FOA is to invite applications for a Coordinating Center for the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program. The ECHO Cohort Coordinating Center will provide comprehensive operational leadership and an organizational infrastructure to manage and coordinate all ECHO Cohort activities. The Coordinating Centers main roles are to: 1) Provide oversight and effective project management for all aspects of the ECHO Cohort consortium; 2) Support multiple ECHO Cohort committees and serve as the centralized ECHO Cohort communications center; and 3) Administer the Opportunities and Innovation Fund. The purpose of the NCI Pathway to Independence Award for Outstanding Early Stage Postdoctoral Researchers (K99/R00) program is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NCI-supported, independent investigators. This program is designed for postdoctoral fellows with research and/or clinical doctoral degrees who do not require an extended period of mentored research training beyond their doctoral degrees. The objective of this award is to facilitate a timely transition of these fellows from their mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent tenure-track (or equivalent) faculty positions. The program will provide independent NCI research support during this transition to help awardees to launch competitive, independent research careers. Researchers in the scientific areas of data science and cancer control science are especially encouraged to apply. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for candidates proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial. Under this FOA candidates are permitted to propose a research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor. Those proposing a clinical trial or an ancillary clinical trial as lead investigator, should apply to the companion FOAs (RFA-CA-22-036 or RFA-CA-22-037).

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The NIH INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndromE (INCLUDE) Project seeks to improve health and quality-of-life for individuals with Down syndrome (DS). As part of the INCLUDE Project, NIH is interested in expanding and diversifying the skilled DS clinical research workforce. The intent of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications that develop creative and innovative short courses to train the next generation of DS researchers in state-of-the-art clinical research skills that will improve the understanding of the co-occurring clinical features in DS and support development of new treatments for health conditions experienced by those with DS.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to establish Centers to support research that will accelerate the translational use of Microphysiological Systems (MPS) in drug development through regulatory acceptance and adoption for industrial use, by establishing MPS that are fit-for-purpose for industry needs and have specific defined contexts of use (CoUs) and will be developed with consideration of applicable expectations to achieve regulatory approval. For this FOA, the term drugs refers to both human pharmacological and biological products unless otherwise specified. These Centers will further the development of MPS as drug development tools (DDTs) that, once qualified, will be made publicly and commercially available to fill unmet needs in drug development.

This NIH Research Career Enhancement Award (K18) program invites applications from experienced investigators seeking to redirect or expand their research programs through the acquisition of new skills and knowledge in the area of firearm mortality and injury prevention research, which is beyond and complementary to their current areas of expertise. The program will support research training and career development experiences and a small-scale research project that will provide experienced investigators with the scientific competencies required to conduct research relevant to firearm morality and injury prevention research. Eligible candidates are independent investigators at any faculty rank or level.
