The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is interested in receiving proposals for its Young Investigator Program (YIP). ONR's Young Investigator Program seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment, who have received their PhD or equivalent degree on or after 01 January 2016, and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of U.S. Institutions of Higher Education (hereafter also called "universities") to the Department of the Navy's Science and Technology (S&T) research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. Individuals who are holding U.S. non-profit equivalent positions are also encouraged to apply. Proposals addressing research areas (as described in the ONR Science and Technology Department section of ONR's website at https://www.nre.navy.mil/ ) which are of interest to ONR Program Officers will be considered. FY23 Dept of Navy (DoN) Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Education and Workforce Program $600,000.00

This FOA is for STEM education programs and activities, which is formal or informal education that is primarily focused on physical and natural sciences, technology, engineering, social sciences, and mathematics disciplines, topics, or issues (including environmental science education or stewardship).STEM education programs and activities that could be supported by this FOA include one or more of the following as the primary objective:• Develop learners’ knowledge, skill, or interest in STEM.• Attract students to pursue certifications, licenses, or degrees (two-year degrees through post-doctoral degrees) or careers in STEM fields.• Provide growth and research opportunities for post-secondary, college and graduate students in STEM fields, such as working with researchers or conducting research that is primarily intended to further education.• Improve mentor/educator (K-12 pre-service or in-service, post-secondary, and informal) quality in STEM areas.• Improve or expand the capacity of institutions to promote or foster STEM fields.This FOA will not consider applications for research, with the exception of those whose primary purpose is intended to further education (as described in third bullet above) and that are not expected to generate intellectual property. FY24 Department of Defense Multidisciplinary Research Program of the University Research Initiative (MURI) $7,500,000.00

DoD's MURI program addresses high-risk basic research and attempts to understand or achieve something that has never been done before. The program was initiated over 25 years ago and it has regularly produced significant scientific breakthroughs with far reaching consequences to the fields of science, economic growth, and revolutionary new military technologies. Key to the program’s success is the close management of the MURI projects by Service program officers and their active role in providing research guidance.The DoD agencies involved in this program reserve the right to select for award all, some or none of the proposals submitted in response to this announcement. The DoD agencies provide no funding for direct reimbursement of proposal development costs. Technical and cost proposals (or any other material) submitted in response to this FOA will not be returned. It is the policy of the DoD agencies to treat all proposals as competition sensitive information and to disclose their contents only for the purposes of evaluation.Awards will take the form of grants.
