The Department of Energy is not accepting applications to this Request for Information.The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity is seeking public comment through a Request for Information, DEFOA0002992 regarding the planned approach for Storage Innovations 2030: Liftoff. SI Liftoff is planned to build upon the strategic efforts initiated in the other three pillars of SI 2030, Framework, Prize, and Flight Paths, by fostering diverse partnerships of companies within or among storage technology industries to tackle pre-competitive research and development challenges. DOE is releasing this RFI to notify interested parties of its intent to implement SI Liftoff and to describe the proposed plan and timeline. The Department also seeks input from all stakeholders through this RFI regarding pre-competitive R&D opportunities, consortia development, and how the goals of SI 2030 may advance other Department priorities including equity and workforce development.Information collected from this RFI may be used by DOE for planning purposes, which could include possibly developing future Funding Opportunity Announcements, other solicitations or technical assistance efforts related to the Office of Energy program. The information collected may be published, therefore, DOE strongly encourages that no confidential business information or proprietary information be submitted and, if such information is provided, all documents are marked accordingly. The United States Department of Energy Office of Electricity intends to issue Funding Opportunity Announcement number DEFOA0003036 titled Energy Storage Demonstration and Validation. This Notice of Intent to Issue is for informational purposes only; the Department of Energy is not seeking comments on the information in this notice and applications are not being accepted at this time. Any information contained in this notice is subject to change. The anticipated Funding Opportunity Announcement will address FY2023 Congressional Direction, which directs OE to pursue a competitive pilot demonstration grant program, as authorized in section 3201 of the Energy Act of 2020, for energy storage projects that are U.S-controlled, U.S. made, and North American sourced and supplied. The Department is directed to include in this program large scale commercial development and deployment of long cycle life, lithium-grid scale batteries and their components.

Increasing Utilization and Reliability of Electric Infrastructure with Grid Enhancing Technologies. This Funding Opportunity Announcement is designed to seek applicants to conduct Research, Development, and Demonstration RD and D for innovative approaches that demonstrate real world benefits and usage of Grid Enhancing Technologies through at scale field demonstration.

DE-FOA-0003004 is a Notice of Intent to Issue DE-FOA-0002614, Round 3 titled Carbon Management - Round 3. The objective of the planned Funding Opportunity Announcement is to expand the Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management’s (DOE FECM’s) carbon management portfolio through support for research and development (R&D) projects in the programmatic areas of Point Source Carbon Capture and Carbon Transport and Storage.

The Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC) is issuing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) No. DE-FOA-0002907. Topic Area 1: In conjunction with the eligibility requirements set forth in the FOA, the objective of this topic area is to build a new manufacturing or recycling facility for the production or recycling, as applicable, of advanced energy property. Topic Area 2: In conjunction with the eligibility requirements set forth in the FOA, the objective of this topic area is to re-equip or expand a manufacturing or recycling facility for the production or recycling, as applicable, of advanced energy property.

The combined objectives of reducing oil and natural gas wastewater volume, beneficial reuse of subsurface energy industry wastewater, potential mitigation of induced seismicity, and characterization and/or recovery of critical resources from oil/natural gas produced water and/or coal combustion residuals wastewater associated with coal power generation are the drivers for this Funding Opportunity Announcement.
