This would be a U.S. Embassy branded space-themed booth that will consist of an interactive exhibit that showcases the wonders of the universe and the latest advancements in space technology. All program activities should have a strong American focus and should include U.S. models, examples, and precepts. The pavilion will feature engaging displays, demonstrations, and hands-on activities that showcase the latest advancements in space technology and the wonders of the universe. From virtual reality to building your own mini-rocket, visitors of all ages will leave the pavilion with a deeper appreciation for the cosmos and a greater understanding of U.S. leadership in this field. In addition to the pavilion, workshops and public talks delivered by U.S. speakers and USG alumni of STEM programs will be organized on the margins of the festival. All program activities should have a strong American focus and should include U.S. models, examples, and precepts. - Staffing and Pavilion Management: Hire and train staff to manage the pavilion, including scientists, educators, and volunteers who have expertise in space and astronomy. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The U.S. Embassy Morocco is pleased to announce an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a space-themed summer camp for youth ages 15-18 that offers hands-on learning opportunities for 30 Moroccan participants to explore and discover the world of space science and technology. The camp's curriculum will include activities such as model rocket building and launching, stargazing and astronomy, planet and solar system studies, and visits to observatories and science centers. Additionally, the camp will provide lectures and workshops led by scientists, engineers, and other experts in the field to help the participants understand the science behind space exploration. The camp will also provide an opportunity for the participants to interact and socialize with other space enthusiasts, and to develop teamwork and leadership skills. The camp will have a strong participation of trainers with a connection to the United States, application of U.S. models, or approaches typically applied in the United States. The overall goal of this camp is to inspire, educate, and empower young Moroccans to pursue their interests in space exploration and technology, and to support their development as future leaders in STEM fields. The Recipient will also develop and implement a competitive recruitment process to select the 30 participants. - Design of training: The Recipient will develop the curriculum and design the camp activities to ensure a high-quality learning experience for the participants. This may involve research into best practices for science education and youth development, as well as collaboration with experts in the field of space science and technology. The curriculum should be tailored to the interests and abilities of the campers and should provide a balance of hands-on learning activities and classroom instruction. Additionally, the camp should be designed to promote safety, inclusivity, and a positive learning environment for all participants. - Program delivery: The Recipient will organize a six-day summer camp. This will involve overseeing the logistics of the camp, such as arranging for facilities, equipment, and supplies needed for the activities, as well as recruiting and training camp staff to ensure the safety and well-being of the participants. Program Objectives: Youth are on the front lines of the risks and the rewards of the online world. Their passion for tech, games and other online activities makes them vulnerable to cyber-attacks, cyber bullying, and misinformation. Cyber touches everything. We use computer networks for just about everything we do in our current way of life. Therefore, it is important to defend our devices and services from electronic attacks by nefarious actors such as hackers, spammers, and cybercriminals. This program will teach 80 participants about the exciting world of cybersecurity and will provide hands on training on the basics of cybersecurity during workshops on Information Systems, Cyber Defense, Data Communications & Networking, Cryptography, Digital Forensics, the Internet of Things, and Combatting Mis- and Disinformation. The program should also include true-to-life security simulation, where participants will learn how to root out cyber threats and defend against a targeted attack. Participant will also be taught the fundamentals of securing computer operating systems such as Windows. They will also learn security features and settings in the operating systems—like password policies—and techniques for updating and creating a stronger, more secure system. Each proposal should meet the following objectives: Strengthen young Moroccans' knowledge of cyber security by exposure to U.S. experts and experience. Equip participants with the right tools to protect them from dangerous cyberattacks against networks, data systems and personal information. Help participants identify and combat mis- and disinformation, particularly from malign international actors. Learn to harness new technologies to confront tomorrow’s security challenges. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE MISSION MOROCCO AMERICAN SPACES Notice of Funding Opportunity We are pleased to announce the American Spaces Grant Funding 2022, with a total of $114,000 available. Funding will be for projects and programming that will take place in Morocco’s two American Spaces: Dar America in Casablanca and the American Space in Oujda for the 2022-2023 programming season (September 2022 through July 2023). The funding will be divided between the two spaces. Please read this document carefully and follow all instructions. A. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION Mission Morocco American Spaces’ primary audiences are students and young professionals, ages 15 – 30 in the Casablanca and Oujda regions. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundations, think tanks, and academic institutions may apply for funding. Grantees must have non-profit status. Awards to individuals will be considered on a case-by-case basis. As noted above, we seek proposals for activities that will engage audiences at our two American Spaces. While U.S.-based NGOs and individuals may apply, preference is given to local Moroccan NGOs. Notice: For Fiscal Year 2022 all proposals submitted in response to this announcement must include a contingency plan describing in detail: 1) how the proposed activity would be implemented if health restrictions are in place during the anticipated period of performance, and 2) the applicant's capacity to conduct programs virtually. B. OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAM OUTCOMES The objectives of this round of American Spaces grant funding is to create and produce strategic programming for the American Spaces network in Morocco. All proposals must have a clear American component and seek to address the following themes and strategic objectives: Professional Development for Moroccan Youth: Promote professional and soft skills development, entrepreneurship and innovation through mentoring and training to promote positive community engagement and increase employability. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Programming: Create creative STEM programs to engage youth at Morocco’s American Spaces. American-inspired Cultural Programming that highlights diversity and inclusion: Engage audiences through American-inspired cultural programming, including film, music, literature, history, or art, with a focus on themes of diversity and inclusion. Environment and Climate Programming: Expand understanding of environmental and climate change challenges through innovative programming. Countering Disinformation: Promote media literacy and other skills to help young people effectively identify online disinformation. Please note, the U.S. Mission in Morocco will only consider proposals where a majority of proposed programming takes place inside one of our two American Spaces. Any outside programming (at schools, in other cultural institutions, at NGOs, etc.) will only be considered if it is directly tied to a larger program taking place within an American Space. Participants and Audiences: Moroccan youth and young professionals (15-30 years of age) addressing the above objectives C. U.S. CONTENT To be eligible for funding consideration, proposals must demonstrate significant U.S. content. U.S. content can include, for example, the participation of U.S. experts, the application or adaptation of U.S. models and best practices, or pedagogical materials related to American history, society, culture, government, or institutions. Please do not submit proposals without significant U.S. content, as they will not be considered for funding.
